Dr. Ariana Amaya is the director of Next Steps at Vanderbilt, a four-year IPSE program. Through her role, Ariana directs the implementation of all components of the Next Steps program. This includes oversight of program-level goals and operations, collaborating with both campus and community partners, and supporting Next Steps staff and students within an innovative, inclusive model of best practice. Additionally, Ariana serves as co-PI of a $2.3M U.S. Department of Labor, Apprenticeships Building America-2 grant: "Expanding Apprenticeships for Students with Intellectual Disability in Inclusive Postsecondary Education.” Through this work, Next Steps is expanding to offer registered apprenticeship pathways in the fields of early childhood education, K8 education, hospitality, research, archives, public sector, technology, and healthcare. Additionally, through this grant, the team will develop a free resource toolkit for IPSE programs to support the implementation of apprenticeships.

Ariana holds a Doctorate of Occupational Therapy from Belmont University, where she focused her studies on the role of occupational therapy in inclusive higher education. Previously, she developed and directed Integrated Studies: a residential, inclusive higher education program for students with intellectual disability at Gwynedd Mercy University in Pennsylvania.
